We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced team player to fill the full-time position of Development Associate. The Development Associate is a donor-centric fundraiser with ability to promote recognition and stewardship activities necessary to strengthen the ongoing relationship between the Arts Commons/Calgary International Children’s Festival (CICF) and their respective government, foundation, corporate and individual constituents and prospects. Reporting to the Director, Development & External Relations, the Development Associate works in partnership with our internal colleagues to build sincere and enduring relationships with external constituents from the public and private sectors to secure financial investment in support of operating and capital priorities of Arts Commons and the CICF. Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Be a Power User of the Tessitura Software to boost campaign revenue, analyze and adjust appeals for effectiveness, and efficiently manage the cultivation process.
  • Pull data and ensures data accuracy for donor and prospect direct mail appeals, online appeals and special communications.
  • Undertake gift coordination by tracking all philanthropic gifts, and generating print tax receipts and letters.
  • Strengthen corporate sponsor engagement by the provision of all recognition strategies as detailed in each sponsorship agreement.
  • Strengthen corporate sponsor engagement by developing, planning and implementing a calendar of stewardship events and initiatives.
  • Strengthen corporate and individual philanthropic donor engagement by developing, planning and implementing a calendar of stewardship events and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of fulfillment reports for corporate sponsors.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records (database and file) of all government, foundation, corporate and individual prospects and constituents.
  • Undertake the coordination of charitable casinos.
  • Provide data reporting and analytics (gift revenue to date and by fundraising stream; renewal rates; donor giving history by list source; etc.).
  • Contributes to the development of a team-oriented work environment, which values staff input and builds on trust, consultation and shared information.
  • Acts at all times in the best interests of Arts Commons and CICF.
  • Adheres to the Donor Bill of Rights and the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice.

The Development Associate is a member of the Development & External Relations team that achieves its principal accountability by securing grants from government funding agencies and foundations, sponsorships from corporations, philanthropic gifts from individuals and corporations, and the management of special events. As a member of this team, the Development Associate plays a key role in helping achieve the organization’s operating goals.

Applicants should have 1 – 3 years of experience in a development role within a non-profit organization, or experience working in a similar position with similar organizations. Other desired skills and qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of principles and techniques relevant to fundraising.
  • Understanding of the needs and perceptions of government agencies, corporate sponsors, foundation partners and corporate and individual philanthropic donors.
  • Has a successful record of stewardship of government agencies, corporate sponsors, foundation partners and corporate and individual philanthropic donors.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills necessary to prioritize and accomplish concurrent assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Has a high degree of initiative, self-motivation and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Has proven ability to successfully address challenge and change.
  • Knowledge about the arts, and understands its value to the community.
  • Good decision-making skills, tactful, good listener, willingness to search out answers, ability to recognize when others need to be involved in activities or decisions.
  • Creativity, curiosity, sense of humor, high energy level, and an enthusiasm for meeting and working with a wide range of constituents.
  • Knowledge of Canada Customs and Revenue Agency regulations governing non-profit organizations.
  • Experience with software packages such as Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word, in addition to Tessitura, or other donor management system(s).

This position has a 40-hour work-week, with occasional evening and weekend work required. A competitive compensation package, including extended health benefits, is offered.
