Building Maintenance / Event Coordinator

Varsity Community Association is seeking a customer focused individual to help us keep our building and grounds in great shape and our clients happy.     We are an established community association –  50 plus years old.  Everyday our team has the privilege to serve members of Varsity and surrounding communities. Our operation includes our community centre, out of school care, catering and outdoor facilities.

The building maintenance/event coordinator role is a customer (internal and external) service role and there is never a dull day.   This position reports to the General Manager and is responsible for the daily upkeep, cleaning and maintenance of our centre and grounds.  You will work with a small team of dedicated community minded employees and volunteers.   Knowledge of HVAC is a must as well as basic carpentry, repair and plumbing skills.    Knowledge of building cleaning processes and health and safety protocols is critical.     As we host a diverse range of user groups each week, you must also be flexible and able to deal with changing customer requests professionally and efficiently.

In addition, to building maintenance duties, this role is involved in working with our catering team.    We host 40+ events a year ranging from community events to weddings and corporate banquets.   As part of the setup team, duties include organizing supplies for upcoming events, setting up rooms and ensuring the team has everything required for a successful event.

Skills requirements/responsibilities

Building and grounds maintenance experience.

Ability to do minor building repairs in areas of construction, electrical and plumbing.

WHMIS training an asset

Responsible for maintaining a clean healthy environment for our staff and clients.

Experience in event/catering preparation and setup an asset

Excellent with people as you will be working with clients, staff and contractors.

Ability to adjust priorities on the fly.

Inventory management and planning.

Computer skills – familiar with MS Word / Excel and comfortable working with email/online to deal with suppliers

Familiar/comfortable operating small equipment (snow removal equipment, lawn mowers, tractor operation.

Police Clearance for working with vulnerable sector is required


This is full time position.

Typical hours are daytime Mon – Friday with occasional weekend/evening requirements
